Birds of a feather that do not fly together are called ostriches. One of the great tools of survival for all birds is the ability to fly; although the ostrich feather is remarkable in its engineering, ostriches use their feathers to protect their bodies from the elements rather than for flight. It is the lack of ability to fly that has ensured the survival of ostriches which can be as easily farmed as cattle. Today, most ostrich feather boas are created from feathers that come not from wild ostriches but from ostriches that have never seen a lion in the wild. Of course, in the wild, ostriches are perfectly designed for avoiding being eaten by lions as their long legs and long necks enable them to see lions approaching from miles away. In fact, it is very difficult for a lion to catch an ostrich as ostriches can easily out run a lion. However, the most dangerous predator for an ostrich is man; not necessarily the sniper rifle but, the loss of the birds’ natural habitat to farming.

Concern for the preservation of bird species is usually at the forefront of buying decisions with most if not all companies that buy in ostrich feathers. There are many different types of ostrich plumage, which is why the ostrich is so popular with fashion designers. Quite simply, every living thing needs water to survive and a cat is no exception. Most of what we are is water. I remember, in one , Star Trek the Next Generation episode, the crew came upon an alien entity that was very different from humans and to them we appeared as ” ugly bags of mostly water” and maybe we are, but to cat lovers, we are sure these aliens would refer to a cat as “handsome bags of mostly water”. Cats are incredible in so many ways and so capable of taking care of themselves in the wild or as a house bound prince or princess. The problem is that when the cat becomes the majesty of the domain it expects the servants to take care of everything and trusts that we have their best interests at heart. The litter box is expected to be cleaned, food is expected to be ready and tasty and fun time is to be scheduled. They are not dependent, god forbid, they just have decided to do us the favour of being in our presence. One of our ( the servants) responsibilities is to ensure that the cat has adequate nourishment. Which brings us back to water. As I mentioned, water is essential. When cats caught and ate rodents and such they were getting water as what they were eating was around 75% water. When they switch to canned foods, they are getting food that has approximately the same water content. The problem arises when the cat is getting mostly dry foods. Dry cat food contains only 10 % water, or, in some cases, less. If they do not replace this source of water elsewhere there could be a problem. Cats are prone to cystitis which is an irritation to the bladder and to kidney failure. So cats, particularly those eating mostly dry food, need a source of water available to them at all times. Which brings us to a cats finicky nature. Many cats do not like drinking stale stagnant water from a bowl, other dislike the taste of chlorine in city-taps. I’ve read that a cat, as a rule of thumb, needs to drink one ounce of water for every pound of body weight, every day which, if you do the math, is a substantial amount. Hence the popularity of water fountains. They offer many advantages. The water is there when needed. It is not stagnant and seems fresher and aerated and colder and cats gets to hypnotically watch the flow, and I think, it appeals to their basic wild instinct and makes them happier.

There are many models of cat water fountain to choose from. I haven’t tried them all, but I did have to go through a couple of models before my cats took to the idea. When I only had one cat the Drinkwell fountain worked well. This cat seemed to like the water-fall action and was constantly taking a refresher. However, when I got a second cat, the Drinkwell didn’t satisfy them both. Perhaps, it was a territorial thing but the second cat wouldn’t go near the fountain. A friend of mine recommended the pioneer Pet Ceramic Drinking Fountain and that did the trick. The Pioneer has both a fountain and a side reservoir and the cats were able to get water at the same time from the different sides of the unit.From my experience a cat water fountain is must-have, if you travel, if you have a particularly finicky cat, or if you just don’t want to have to be worrying about whether or not your cat is getting enough water to drink.

I made the mistake of watching some youtube videos about the coming rapture/end of days/new world order crapola. There are people who really believe the government is engaged in a huge conspiracy to take over and disarm the populous. They point to the Katrina aftermath as an example. Sure, guns were rounded up, but they neglect to mention that they were returned once things cooled down. They really believe the government is going to round everyone up and put them in camps. The logistics alone are enough to make anyone with any notion of how big this country is laugh in their face. But, they insist it is COMING! That is their constant saying….IT IS COMING SOON! They cant be specific when asked, its just soon.

They encourage buying survivalist gear and stocking up on food and weapons etc.. I think this is where they slip up and show their true motivation. Most of these guys are in it to make money. They either own or work for someone selling survivalist stuff and need to pay their bills too.

My big question is this…..do some people actually need to be paranoid to keep going? If it helps them to have fear, should I judge them or just ignore it like everyone else? Why would anyone create a false fear for motivation? It just seems like a sad waste of a life to me. Is anyone else hearing or reading about these wackos? And now, the discovery channel is starting a new series call “peppers”. Great, add to the madness DC.

Those people are mostly tea baggers and they really just want to shoot and kill their fellow Americans. I work with some of them all they do is talk about what kind of guns they have and how they could kill people with them. It’s a sick fetish of theirs.

Weekdays could be boring and depressing. It’s not easy to fix that, because while we don’t want to waste our energy, we must work, learn or do whatever what we don’t like.

1. Wake up happily

When you wake up and you say your whole day will be bad you have already lost. There are days when you need to work more, but if you start it with no power and a lot of depression you will be stressed before even leaving the house. According to my schedule Wednesday is my worst day. When I woke up I told myself I won’t survive the day: “I will be very tired and I won’t have time to write something on my blog.”. Nah… I’m writing this text on the lesson! We are watching funny videos in the computer room.When you wake up you must find the “good point” in your day. It can be even an online game or just a good meal waiting in the refrigerant. Yes there MUST be something good in your day. If you can’t find it you aren’t looking trough the fog hard enough.Declare you will reach something today (that’s finding a topic to write about for me) and do it.

2. Turn yourself off

Sometimes you just have to learn how to turn your brain off. When I have a lot of things to do on the computer and the homework still waiting for me, I try to disable my desires. What I mean? Well we all have desires, right? You want to get something nice or you want to find love. These lead us to our goals. When I’m doing something very boring I try to don’t think on what I want. I will start wandering and never finish.Really just imagine nothing. I trained this a lot thanks to my German teacher. When you are having some free minutes try to relax.

3. Legal drugs

Wait! No, I mean music! Music can distract you from the boring paperwork, well if you start writing an AC/DC lyric instead of an address you should turn the volume down a bit.If you got a favourite air freshener or a scented candle use it! Try to make the room more comfortable. Or you would rather have a glass of wine? Okay if you are in the office you can’t drink but this one is for home (or if you are a barkeeper give a try).
